The opening of the Pau Casals motorway (C-32) in 1992, which runs from Barcelona to Vendrell in the province of Tarragona, has considerably improved the region’s infrastructure . It is also worth mentioning the resurfacing of the C15 highway between Vilanova i la Geltrú and Vilafranca del Penedés, and also the improved regional train services between Barcelona and Vilanova i la Geltrú.
The Garraf region is renowned for its diversity and cultural activity. It has pioneered tourism in Catalonia, and is now leading the evolution of residential tourism towards the main residence.
In fact, at the end of the nineteenth century, Sitges had already attracted its first visitors, some of whom were very famous. At the moment, although the offer remains focused around the village, it is also complemented by two coastal municipalities; Cubelles and Vilanova i la Geltrú, and the inland communities Canyelles, Olivella and Sant Pere de Ribes. There is also an initial offer aimed at visitors who are attracted by rural tourism and the idea of living among natural surroundings. Also noteworthy is the fact that the area has four marine ports; Ginesta, Garraf and Aiguadolç in the town of Sitges, and also the port in Vilanova i la Geltrú.
